About The Hydel College
The Hydel College is located at Ferry, St. Catherine, and is the newest branch of the Hydel Oak Tree, The Hydel Group of Schools.
The College was established August 30, 2009 marking the exact time, seventeen years (17) ago when the acorn of a Hydel was planted at 28 Mannings Hill Road, before being moved to its present location.
Over Three Hundred students applied for entry to the Hydel College during the period April 1, 2009 to August 30, 2009. The entire group of students staged a grand performance with the song “The Lord is my Shepherd” on the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2009, when the University College was declared open by the then Minister of Education. The Honourable Andrew Holness.
The guest speaker was the then Prime Minister, The Honourable Bruce Golding.
On September 1, 2009 the institution opened its doors to students registering for the Bachelor of Education Degree in Early Childhood and Primary Education. There were fifteen Lecturers with Dr. Burnett Burton, Director and Mrs Kaye Anderson, the Principal. Both programmes are offered in a flexible mode of course delivery in day and evening sessions.
During the second semester, following meetings and discussions a Memorandum of Understanding was entered into with the University of Technology to collaborate with The Hydel College in some programmes.
The Hydel College is engaged in meetings and discussions with other Colleges and Universities with the view to widen the scope of collaboration with them.
